We begin, like most campaigns, at a tavern. The hearth roars, drunken folk dance on tables, scoundrels plot. We are at The Black Pig in Dolmenwood.
In an unlit corner, our four adventurers. Aranna (AJ), an astrologer of ill-repute, who along with Surina Juno (EC), have conned a great many with false prophecies and falser jewels. Sitting across from Aranna, a former lover? Husband? “it’s complicated”? Thork (HA), a zealot of Loki, who somehow mishandled the finances of his cult and now owes 800gp.
Our merry band of adventurers are partying it up at the Black Pig after scoring an embarrassment of wealth from Princess Snowfall-at-Dusk, when out of the corner of Aranna’s (AJ) eye, she notices Veleris (EB), a former love-interest (and a pickpocket). She avoids eye contact. Orlan (HA), glances over and sees his ex-sergeant, Darrak (AB) sharing drinks with Veleris. Orlan, too, avoids eye contact. Finally, Purple Nurple (OR) sees Darrak as well, someone he and Emma Frog (EC) had shared a prison cell with.
We start today’s session with me teaching the kids about the “Five-Man Band” trope, a useful tool for storytelling and playing RPGs when you have a group working together. We didn’t plan it, but by fate of the dice, our merry band of adventurers have fallen into the necessary roles for a “Five-Man Band”.
Veleris (EB) is the sneaky one. Emma Frog (EC) is the weird magical one. Aranna’s (AJ) plays the “face”, the talkative one.
It’s the month of the Wolf, day of the Stoat. The Snack Club have spent an entire week in No-Ombrulsk resting after defeating the Emerald Enchanter. During their week of indulging in their vices, Octopus (EC) partied so hard she disappeared for a week.
The Snack Club decide to stick around in No-Ombrulsk for another week. Aranna Weaver (AJ) spends the week looking for Octopus, but also visits several expensive establishments to pamper herself as well.
Spoilers Ahead for Daniel J. Bishop’s “The Imperishable Sorceress” (DCC)
Quick Recap: It’s the year of the Leviathan, Month of the Panther, Day of the Spider. The Snack Club are in Ivrian the Unkind’s lair, high up in the Mountain of Giants. So far, they’ve found her journals (which shows her nomenclature to be very apt: flensing young women, bathing in blood, etc.), and they found her laboratory where her artificial construct of an immortal body was… along with her actual dead, withered corpse.
