Our merry band of adventurers are partying it up at the Black Pig after scoring an embarrassment of wealth from Princess Snowfall-at-Dusk, when out of the corner of Aranna’s (AJ) eye, she notices Veleris (EB), a former love-interest (and a pickpocket). She avoids eye contact. Orlan (HA), glances over and sees his ex-sergeant, Darrak (AB) sharing drinks with Veleris. Orlan, too, avoids eye contact. Finally, Purple Nurple (OR) sees Darrak as well, someone he and Emma Frog (EC) had shared a prison cell with.
We start today’s session with me teaching the kids about the “Five-Man Band” trope, a useful tool for storytelling and playing RPGs when you have a group working together. We didn’t plan it, but by fate of the dice, our merry band of adventurers have fallen into the necessary roles for a “Five-Man Band”.
Veleris (EB) is the sneaky one. Emma Frog (EC) is the weird magical one. Aranna’s (AJ) plays the “face”, the talkative one.
There was a brief period in my life where I got into war games and studied military history. If there’s one thing I learned during that time, it’s this: wars are not won by superior strategy, tactics, or even a larger force. They’re won by logistics. Your supply chain, your resource allocation, and making sure everyone is fed and healthy.
In the same token, D&D is similar. It’s a group of people, going into the wilderness to fight monsters and find treasure.
The Snack Club is rich with 10,000gp in treasure, but stuck in Mlurg Nar due to logistics.
Errich Weaver (OR) and Bob the Priest (HA) have joined the party. Errich, apparently, is another Weaver sibling. So now Aranna (AJ), Lane (AB), and Errich are triplets in some weird retcon backstory. Bob the Priest, as you may recall, was the priest they found in the Pit. They pay off their two lone surviving henchpeople, Elyssa and Hemdan, who ask for extra payment after their harrowing experience fighting The People of the Pit.
Quick Recap : Lane Weaver (AB) was drugged by a faun in a tweed jacket. Patrick Weaver (HA) shape-shifted into a fruit fly and is stuck in a very quiet room. Myra (LC) and Veleris (EB), was retconned into going with Myra to find Lane. Emma Frog (EC) and Aranna Weaver (AJ) went down a hallway to the North.
Yes, The Snack Club have split into not two, not three… but four different groups inside a dungeon.
